It has been a couple of years since the demise of the Samurai Beach Carnival, which was held successfully for numerous years. Due to the instigation of Bare Tracks it was thought that the issue of having something on Samurai could once again happen. An expression of interest was sent out outlining the idea of having an informal family picnic day in February 2006. Feedback ensued from that with the support of CAVN, Free Beaches Australia , and ANF. So the Samurai Nude Beach Festival was born, and took place on the 4 th February 2006, which coincided with the final weekend of National Nudist Week.

The curse of Samurai unfortunately was to mare the day, overcast skies and fine rain. Not deterred around 100 nudists in around 30 vehicles attended the day down the southern end of the beach, which had been the historical site of previous carnivals. There were members from CAVN, FBA, Kiata, Rosco, Glenreagh NR as well as Samurai Beach regulars, who all mixed together and enjoyed the party style atmosphere. By lunchtime the weather had cleared a little and most were in their club uniform and continued socialising with several games of Petanque also being played. Several people also decided to walk the length of Samurai, showing that it is a designated nudist beach, and as such should be that way. There has been an inundation of textiles over recent years, mainly because of the easy access by driving down the beach, but they do have 30 kilometres of beach to drive on at Stockton , so it beats us why they come to our beach.

As the day drew a close all that were there were most appreciative of the efforts in having something happening on Samurai Beach once again. It is an ideal venue to get as many nudists together in the one place and at the one time of year to enjoy each others company. So it looks as it will be happening again next year so book the first Saturday in February 2007 for the Samurai Nude Beach Festival – ‘Reclaim the Beach 2007”. We'll see you there.
